Women's Role In The Military Even in the high-tech 1990s, many military jobs still demand old-fashioned brute strength. Some analysts question whether or not the policy of expanding women's roles in the armed forces is a sound one. "You don't make policy based on imaginary exceptions -- what I call the 'Amazon myth," says Elaine Donnelly, a former member of the Bush administration's Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces.
