At their height, they dominated an area that all, or parts of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and northern Mexico. They were the fiercest of fighters and one of the last to submit to the United States policy of reservations (ENAT, 68-71). They were excellent horsemen, keeping large herds and introducing the horse to neighboring tribes after acquiring it from the Spaniards.
