Rain

RAIN Rain Painting On a rainy day, give each child a paper plate. Let the children sprinkle a few drops of food coloring (or shake a little powdered tempera) on their plates. Have them put on their raincoats and walk outside, holding their plates in the rain for about a minute. After they bring their plates inside, talk about the designs created by the rain. Umbrellas Let the children paint large umbrella shapes cut out of butcher paper. Hang the umbrella paintings on a wall or a bulletin board and attach cane-shaped handles. Making Rain Boil some water in a pot (or a tea kettle) until steam forms above it. Then fill a pie pan with ice cubes and hold it above the pot in the steam "cloud". Have the children observe that when the steam comes in contact with the cool air from the pie pan, dro Read More

Whatever the Weather... We are always talking about it, but can't do anything about it!!! This page is best viewed in your largest, boldest font, due to the "fancy" wallpaper :-) Whatever the Weather Begin by reading the big book What Will the Weather Be Like Today from Scholastic Publishers. This rhythmic, rhyming text takes the reader on a world wide journey to see the various weather around the globe. Other weather books include What?s the Weather Today? a Rookie Reader Science big book, from Scholastic and Little Cloud by Eric Carle. We used the song, ?Mr. Sun? by Raffi both as a weather related song and as a creative springboard to other songs. Here are our innovations: Oh, Mr. Cloud, Cloud Mr. Rain Cloud Won?t you please just go away? Oh, Mr. Cloud, Cloud Mr. Rain Cloud We all want t Read More
