Put one of each pair in a row on the table or floor. One child takes the remaining eggs and puts them in the same sequence under your row of eggs. Unknown Back-to Back Match Up Two children sit back to back. One child has three to six eggs and the other child has the matching set of eggs. One child describes one of the eggs. The other child tries to find the same egg in his/her set. For example: "Hold up the yellow egg with the green lines on it." When the child finds the match and holds it up, everyone claps. Fiesta Navidad A Mexican Christmas Begin by reading the book, Nine Days to Christmas . In this story a little girl excitedly prepares for her first "posada". The book clearly explains the meaning of the celebration ("posada" means shelter, and during the posada procession the participants are symbolizing the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem) and this will set the purpose for the rest of your unit. Other books that fit into the unit are The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie DePaola, Too Many Tamales , Agua, Agua, Agua and Hats, Hats, Hats . The children love learning some Spanish words. We learn to count in Spanish and to say the days of the week in Spanish. House of Hugs "Groundhog Day"

Votes:0
Groundhog Day February 2nd The Legend of Groundhog Day Groundhog Day was founded in the traditions of the Romans, who carried the myth to the Germans during Roman invasions many centuries ago. The story was also based on this Scottish couplet: If Candlemas Day is bright and clear, There'll be two winters in the year. Candlemas Day is celebrated on February 2nd. It was determined that if any animal came out of its underground hibernation on that day, and the sun was out, there would be six more weeks of winter. Thus was born the tradition of the "two winters" or the "second winter." What began as a tale from ancient times, became fact in the early 1880's. A group of residents from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania decided to celebrate Candlemas Day by going to the woods in search of a groundhog. I Read More

Mother's Day <<<Erna's Mother's Day Collection>>> Last year, we gathered little baby food jars, one per child. Then, we used podge glue to cover the bottles. The children then put the tissue paper onto the jars to make colourful little flower holders. We then purchased some soil and small flowers to put into the baby food jars. It was a nice little gift for mom's on mother's day. (You could also stick a small votive candle in one of these too) We've also purchased gardening gloves and made carrot prints on them using the rectangular sponges used for make-up application. Then, using a brush, we painted the tops of the carrots with green. St. Patrick's Day Activity Ideas On St. Patrick's day the Leprechaun is very mischievious. He upsets chairs while children are outside playing, walks through the jello, and dyes the mashed potatoes light green. To help him keep out of mischief we make Leprechaun ladders for him to play on. Stringing shamrocks alternately with snips of straws. Hang from ceiling or windows. Bubbles and rainbows are incorporated into that week and we do bubble prints, and paint with balloons. Make Rainbow Stew by Mixing 1/2 cup sugar with 1 cup corn starch. Add 4 cups cold water. Bring to a boil and cook until thick. Divide into three bowls. Add red food coloring to one, blue to one, and yellow to the last. Put one spoonful of two colors into a zip lock bag. Let the children mix to colors to arrive at a third Read More
