Main Earth Day/Environment Earth Day/Environment We have a fabulous school-wide Earth Day celebration at our school the Friday before Memorial Day every year. I do my Earth Day unit right before then so the children are all geared up for our Earth Day celebration. Books: The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry The Lorax by Dr. Seuss Recycle by Gail Gibbons Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg Miss Rumphius by Barbar Cooney Where Does the Garbage Go? by Paul Showers Activities: 1. Brainstorm and list ways you can help the Earth. 2. Make a recycling graph where the children put their name next to each type of thing they recycle at their homes (newspaper, glass, aluminum cans). 3. WATER Droplet Designs Fill several cups with water and add food coloring. Give each child an eyedropper and a piece of fabric or absorbent paper such as a coffee filter or a paper towel.
