Votes:0 Pinhole Photography The pinhole camera or camera obscura is one of the oldest optical devices.
Pinhole photography is lensless photography, ligth passes through the hole and an image is
formed. Legend has it that pinhole was discovered by an Arab who saw, on his awakening, a
marvelous vision on the wall of his tent. Then he realized that the "vision" was
an image produced by a little hole in the tent. This legend may or may not be true.
Certainly the Chinese and the Greeks knew the principle of the pinhole camera and used it
for observation of solar eclipses. The Arabian physicist and mathematician Alhazen (about
1000 A.D.) explained why the image is upside down. Leonardo da Vinci cited the device in
Codex Atlanticus, while the first detailed widely known description of the pinho Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 To Do and Notice: Making a Pinhole Camera An ordinary camera has a lens that makes an image on film. In a pinhole camera. a small hole replaces the lens. You can construct a pinhole camera using: corrugated cardboard from a box, or stiff cardboard from the back of a pad of paper black paper black tape a cartridge of 126 film* aluminum foil two large rubber bands a ruler a pencil scissors a sharp knife a straight pin or sewing needle Making a pinhole camera The diagram shows the basic construction of a pinhole camera. The body of the camera is a cardboard box that is open at both ends. To make this box, cut a rectangle of cardboard that measures 5 3/4 inches by 2 inches. Divide the long edge of the rectangle into four equal sections. as shown. Use your knife to score the cardboard along eac Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 Welcome to my Pinhole Camera Page A recent interest is the pinhole camera. This particular one is made from 6mm birch veneer. When I was designing this camera I chose to make the focal length 120mm. My first experiments with a flat image produces exposures that were correct in the center area, however the outer limits were very under exposed. So with a compass I layed out a semi circle with a radius of 120mm(4.72") and used only 254mm(10") of the arc which is the length of the paper negative. This design proved to be very evenly exposed. The diameter of the hole is d = sqrt of .00007 * v(focal length in inches) = .46mm(.018"). The aperture is f/ = v/d = 120/.46 = 260. Using Agfa Portriga Rapid fibre base paper as a negative, the basic sunny day exposure is 1 min 30 sec. For those that want Read More Go to Site

Votes:0 How to Make and Use a Pinhole Camera By using common household materials, you can make a camera that will produce pictures. Making and using a pinhole camera will acquaint you with the basic elements of photography while providing an inexpensive and interesting way to take pictures. This bulletin explains how to make and use two types of pinhole cameras-a cartridge pinhole camera and a can or box pinhole camera. You'll be proud of the pictures you can take with the camera you have constructed. Picture taken with a pinhole camera. Pinhole size 1/75 inch. Film-to-pinhole distance: 4 1/2 inches. monitor several hundred X-ray sources on a daily basis, and will be the
first instrument to monitor most of the X-ray sky most of the time. MOXE
will alert users of more sensitive instruments on Russia's giant high
energy astrophysics observatory and of other instruments to transient
activity. MOXE consists of an array of 6 X-ray pinhole cameras,
sensitive from 2 to 25 keV, which views 4 pi steradians (except for a
20 X 80 square degrees patch which includes the Sun). The pinhole
apertures of 0.625 X 2.556 square cm imply an angular resolution of 2.4

Finally, I have taken the time to put together some instructions. They are at the bottom of the page. First, a comic strip! The first pinhole camera I remember seeing was a Kodak cartridge pinhole camera that a teacher made when I was in first grade. Click here to see my Cartoon of the Week page It wasn't until 1994 that I started to make my own, beginning with the film canister camera which took the picture at left. I made a hole in the film canister with a paper punch. I made a pinhole in a piece of heavy foil, then mounted the foil on the canister with electrician's tape in such a way that the pinhole was in the center o Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 Photography with a Pinhole Camera Robert Alber Back to Basics Taking pictures with a pinhole camera is one of the simplest forms of the photographic process. But wonderfully, making and using a pinhole camera provides the student with an understanding and appreciation for not only photography, but human physiology, chemistry, light physics, mathematics, art and possibly, a little magic. All cameras, from the most sophisticated to the pinhole, rely on the same elementary principles, performing in similar fashion to the human eye .Like your eyes, the camera needs light to operate. Light moves into the eye through the pupil , a hole that is made smaller or larger by the iris . Light gets into the camera through a hole called an aperture that is made larger or smaller by a diaphragm . The came Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 Pinhole Photography Pinhole Information Kits, Images and Pinhole Camera Kits P inhole photography is, simply, photography without a lens... a glass lens, that is. A pinhole actually creates an image, just the way a lens does, by allowing light to pass through it to the film. Pinhole photography doesn't have to be a grade school science project. Pinholes are capable of quite a lot and, with a little knowledge and care, the images produced with them can be very fine. By calculating the optimum pinhole size for a given focal length you can obtain very sharp images, particularly when coupled with large format films. Votes:0 I have dabbled in photography since grade school and recently became involved with pinhole photography purely by accident while surfing through Yahoo!'s photography category. I came across pinhole photography and was fascinated by the visceral/surrealistic quality of the photographs and images. M ost people build their own pinhole cameras but you can also buy them as well. The images below were taken with the Robert Rigby 4x5 pinhole camera , Kevin Finney 4x5 Pinhole/Zoneplate camera (pictured above). and a Leica M6 fitted with a Kevin Finney pinhole body cap. F ilm used in the 4x5's include Polaroid Type 52, Polapan 72, Polapan Sepia 56, and Polacolor 100. For the Leica, I used Kodak's new B&W + 400, and Konica VX100 color films.
