Originating from Africa (of course), a medium- or large-size, basically gray bird with a red tail. Grey sub-species & sub-sub-species (whatever that means :-): Congo Grey - This is the nominate bird, P.e.erithicus. About 14" long, light gray with a bright red tail and and all-black beak. Timneh Grey - P.e.timneh, this grey is smaller (12" or so), much darker gray, with a dark maroon-colored tail and a bi-colored beak (black and horn colored). Tomi (pronounced "toe-me") is a Timneh African Grey of unknown age (figured to be around 3 years old). He had a couple of owners before me, one of which was an icky pet store. Needless to say, he came to me with a lot of bad memories to get past. However, since September '95, when I bought him, we've made a ton of progress and he's now the sweetest, funniest bird in the world. He has an extensive vocabulary and quite an assortment of noises.
