She was a contender in the 1932 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles. She won the javelin throw (143 ft) and the 80-m hurdle (11.7sec) and then played professional basketball. She played professional golf. Between 1936 and 1954 she won every major women's golf championship, including the U.S. Amateur Championship (1946), and the World Championship (1948, 1949, 1850), and the U.S. Women's Open (1946, 1950, and 1951), both professional tou Read More

Henrietta's Dominion: The Henrietta Onodi Fan Page

Welcome to Henrietta's Dominion , a fan page devoted solely to the great Hungarian gymnast Henrietta Onodi. I started this page because there was a severe lack of material related to Henrietta, my very favorite gymnast, on the world wide web. Thus this page was born to rectify the situation. This site is never finished, and any contribution is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to hear from you. If you have been here before, you can find out changes made since your last visit: Who is Henrietta Onodi? Henrietta Onodi, nicknamed "Henni", is a former World and Olympic Champion on vault, perhaps the best gymnast to ever come out of the country of Hungary, and she is simply one of the most graceful gymnasts in the international elite level. Johann Olav Koss: Olympic-Sized Heart By Erik Cetrulo (MALD '01) "We cannot escape the thought that the terrible occurrences that we see all around us are quintessentially our problems. As competent human beings, we cannot shirk the task of judging how things are and what needs to be done. As reflective creatures, we have the ability to contemplate the lives of others. . . Ultimately, the focus of development must be on enhancing the ability of people to lead the lives they have reason to value. Jonathan Edwards - Olympic Triple-jumper. Interview with Jonathan Edwards, triple jump medal winner.

SOON Online Magazine Jonathan Edwards - Olympic Triple-jumper Jonathan Edwards shot to fame when he took the World Record for the Triple Jump in 1995. But he was Triple Jumping back in 1988 at the Seoul Olympics. He won the Commonwealth Games silver medal in 1990 and 1994, and in 1992 took the World Cup Triple Jump, when he went to Barcelona for the Olympics. He took World Champion Bronze in 1993. Barcelona was a disappointment. “It was probably the worst period of my life athletically. All my hopes and dreams had been blown out of the water.” However, as a Christian he learnt from the experience, and had to question his feelings: “Am I really going to go for it 100%, come what may, win or lose? Mark Spitz

Mark Spitz (1950 - ) By Seymour "Sy" Brody The 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, were filled with a mixture of emotions for the participating Jewish athletes. Mark Spitz won seven gold medals and established many world records for swimming. Terrorists murdered eleven Israeli athletes. The world was elated over Spitz's achievements in swimming and was stunned and angered by the cold-blooded murder of the athletes . At the games, American security guards quickly formed a shield of protection around Spitz since they were fearful that the terrorists might strike at him because he was a Jew. Spitz was angry and saddened by the loss of the Israeli athletes. However, he was too stunned and protected to do anything symbolic against the terrorists. Spitz was the oldest of three child Read More

All these words have been used to describe Scott Hamilton, but they don't even begin to describe this remarkable man. No one in the world thought the little frail boy from Ohio would make it this far. But those two stars in the sky you saw smiling last night.........that was Dorothy and Ernest Hamilton. They are oh so proud of their boy. Forty years ago, God gave them a son. In turn, they gave their son the oppurtunity to become the world's hero he is today. For this, I personally thank you Dorothy and Ernie. I could waste a lot of space and time, and tell you all of Scott's accomplishments, but that's not why I admire him. All the medals in Read More

Wilma Rudolph biography

Wilma Rudolph NAME: Wilma Glodean Rudolph BIRTHDATE: June 23, 1940 BIRTHPLACE: Clarksville, Tennessee EDUCATION: At first, Wilma was tutored at home by her family because she was crippled. She first began school at the age of seven. In 1947, the schools of the Southern states were segregated -- black students and white students had to attend separate schools. Even though blacks had to pay the same taxes as whites, the schools for black students were usually poorly funded, so they were less likely to have adequate books, teachers, classrooms, or equipment. In junior high, Wilma followed her older sister Yolanda's example and joined the basketball team. The coach, Clinton Gray, didn't put her in a single game for three years. Finally, in her sophomore year, she became the starting guard. Dur Read More
