Marten Martes americana This member of the weasel family with the long, lustrous fur was once found in a broad belt across forested northern North America, but excessive trapping and destruction of their habitat has depleted their numbers until, today, they remain only in pockets. Their insatiable curiosity and appetite, often mistaken for tameness, made them rather easy victims for all sorts of traps.
