Votes:0 The History of Indoor Soccer in the United States Written by Steve Holroyd (soccerbook@erols.com) , with an intro by Colin Jose To some the game of indoor soccer is new, but just as the outdoor game in the U.S. didn't begin with Pele, the indoor game wasn't born when the Major Indoor Soccer League came into being. Incredible though it may seem indoor, or "rink" soccer as it was known then, was played at least as early as 1885 when the Canadian team that visited New Jersey to play an outdoor international also played a series of indoor games. Newspaper reports of the Canadian tour relate that the games were played at the Olympian Roller Skating rink, on Broadway, near Fifty-second street in New York.
