1492 Exhibit Welcome to 1492: AN ONGOING VOYAGE an Exhibit of the Library of Congress, Washington, DC 1492. Columbus. The date and the name provoke many questions related to the linking of very different parts of the world, the Western Hemisphere and the Mediterranean. What was life like in those areas before 1492? What spurred European expansion? How did European, African and American peoples react to each other? What were some of the immediate results of these contacts? 1492: AN ONGOING VOYAGE addresses such questions by examining the rich mixture of societies coexisting in five areas of this hemisphere before European arrival. It then surveys the polyglot Mediterranean world at a dynamic turning point in its development. The exhibition examines the first sustained contacts between Ameri Read More

History Essay

How To Remember Historical Events ~~ Paul V. Hartman ~~ O ne of the valuable tools I use to remember historical events in their proper sequence is to commit to memory a reasonably brief outline of significant events at convenient breakpoints in the span of time of human existence. For instance, the first walled settlement of an agricultural society in history I place at 7000 BC at Jericho. The bow and arrow came into use at 15,000 BC, which is also a suspected date for the arrival of man into South America. The land bridge from England to France submerged to form the English channel at 5000 BC, and the Minoan civilization appears in Crete at 2500 BC. These dates are not dead accurate, but they are reasonably close, and by creating a ladder of several of them, one can then place other event Read More

Welcome to Our Millenuim Site. We are hard at work to bring you as much information as possible about what has happened in the past 1000 years. We also felt that so much has happened in the past 100 years that we should bring you the last century broken up into the different decades. Please keep in mind that this site is graphic intense and could take a bit of time to load. Thanks. Webster's dictionary defines a "millennium" as any 1000 year block...not just from 1001 - 2001 And the reason is simple for there not being a year 0........think Roman numerals.... I=1 V=5 X=10 L=50 C=100 D=500 M=1000 Notice --- there is no symbol for zero --- in Roman numerals there is no value for zero, nothing was referred to as zero, it was null and void --- and since Pope Gregory XIII, the creator of the ca Read More

Welcome! Hello, my name is Dr. Helmut Klaus and I've made an amazing discovery. I've uncovered the secrets of time travel! With this knowledge, I've constructed an amazing time machine that YOU can use, making it possible for you to travel through time and history. You can be the first person to test my incredible device. It's a very simple process. Just start at the Big Bang Theory, which many scientists use to explain the origin of the universe. From there you can travel to many different eras in history. Just enter the time machine, and choose the era you wish to visit. Then push the "Go" button on the control panel, and you're on your way. My remarkable invention does the rest! Now, enough of my crazy rambling. It's time for you to explore! Jump in the time machine and let history be y Read More
