ARCHER

Howard Barich's Page about Jeffrey Archer Welcome to this author page! Jeffrey Archer is one of the world's most successful storytellers. All of his novels and short story collections -- from 1974's Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less to 2003's Sons of Fortune -- have been international bestsellers, selling more than 100 million copies. He was educated at Oxford where he was a world-class sprinter. Mr. Archer is married and has two children and lives in England. My favorite novel is "Kane and Abel". His major novels are: Sons of Fortune - 2003 The Eleventh Commandant - 1998 The Fourth Estate - 1996 Honour Among Thieves - 1993 As the Crow Flies - 1991 A Matter of Honour - 1986 First Among Equals - 1984 The Prodigal Daughter - 1982 Kane and Abel - 1979 Shall We Tell the President? - 1977 Not Read More

Boris Artzybasheff Biography

Votes:0
How does one describe or categorize Boris Artzybasheff? From his very earliest work (the fleeing rabbit from Verotchka's Tales at left and The Undertaker's Garland centaur at right) in 1922 as a 23 year old immigrant from Russia to his 200+ Time Magazine covers over a 24-year span, there is a common thread of strong design and a light heart. Equally at home with a portrait of Stalin and a Venusian do-it-yourselfer, he was a master of composition and a superb draughtsman. He illustrated some 50 books, several of which he wrote. While his Time covers showcased his work to millions, he probably made the biggest impression on the American public with his insightful, satirical and powerful images done for Life Magazine in the early forties on the various faces of war. These humanize the aspects Read More

--> Shirley Abbott, author of The Bookmaker's Daughter , a memoir about growing up in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She had first-hand experience of the divided nature of Hot Springs. Her father was a bookie and every Monday she watched him bring pay-off money to City Hall. Interviewed May 28, 1996 FL: Just paint a picture of this town for us with all the elements. ABBOTT: Well, Hot Springs was unlike any other town in the South, and certainly unlike any other town in Arkansas. People came there from all over. There were people from big places like New York and Chicago mingling on the streets. There were people who had come there to live from far away. There was open gambling, all illegal. There was the race track, which was by the time I was growing up there in the `40's was legal. The state was Read More
