By "silencing" these genes, we re-engineer the plant to be resistant to that disease instead. Recently we developed an RNAi gene silencing strategy for soybeans that will allow us to knock out the expression of any specific gene and evaluate its relative importance in disease resistance. This is a breakthrough, especially since soybeans have historically been difficult to study using molecular genetic tools. WE'RE HERE TO HELP YOU Our Department of Plant Path condu Read More

Each whispers "come in... revive... replenish your spirit..." in its own way. The southwest entrance to the Cooperative Extension Education Center is dedicated to Cheryl Tefft, keeper of the gardens from 1993 to 2004. The entrance nearest the Fine Arts building is a memorial to Jennifer Ryan, class of '92, who died in February 2000. The $30,000 structure was donated by her family, friends and fellow URI landscape architecture alumni. It was designed by Landscape Architect Angelo Simeoni.
