Votes:0 Carl's Graphics Primer This is my attempt to cut through some of the confusion surrouding
interactive 3D graphics. Many people have their own versions of a
graphics primer like this, but often they get a lot of facts wrong.
This frustrated me to the point where I finally wrote all of this
stuff. I've been studying interactive computer graphics as my main occupation
since around 1987, so I have a few ideas about how it really works.
I don't claim to know everything or to get it all right myself, though.
I just try to do my best. There are some other graphics primers out there that do a good job as
well. One is: Real 3D's It covers the ground pretty well, and it has some good
diagrams. Of course, it's not perfect (IMO). Another good reference (with links to others) is: Jean Salvati's Here's Read More Go to Site

magazines say you should have one, and all of the computer people say that you should have one. But what is a 3D graphics card? And what good is it to you anyway? In this feature we will
discuss, in relatively simple terms, what a 3D graphics card is, and whether or not you need one. What is a 3D Graphics Card? Let's answer a basic question first - what is a graphics card ? A video card is the electronic
component inside your computer responsible for generating the things you see on your screen. It
takes care of the coloured dots on the screen that form letters, numbers, and images. Most cards
are of a type called SVGA, or Super Video Graphics Adapter (earlier models were calle Read More Go to Site

The list is provided ``AS IS.'' Many cards work only in 32bit PCI slot. If the card is rejected in 64bit slot, try 32bit slot instead. And, vice versa. Most cards designed for PC (with x86) may work fine with VGA driver. If a driver other than VGA is applicable, test results for VGA mode are often omitted in the list. hp/Compaq/DEC genuine cards are often omitted. Unless otherwise mentioned, OpenGL and 3D operations have not been tested. This page may contain links to some companies and shops. They are here just for your convenience, but not for promotions. Computer video adapter technology advances day by day, along with hardware technology in general. Each new generation of graphics cards moves graphics faster and faster and allows higher displayed resolutions and numbers of colours. But the underlying principles involved are changing much more slowly, and a good grounding in them will let you make an informed purchasing decision even as the benchmarks climb. Now that Power Macs can use the same video cards as PCs, everybody needs to know the same stuff. So here it is. The basics To get a picture onto a screen, a computer – any computer – has to somehow decide what colour every pixel has to be an Read More Go to Site
Votes:0 Last Updated - 31Mar99 Video or graphics circuitry, usually fitted to a card but sometimes found on the motherboard itself, is responsible for creating the picture displayed by a monitor. On early text-based PCs this was a fairly mundane task. However, the advent of graphical operating systems dramatically increased the amount of information needing to be displayed to levels where it was impractical for it to be handled by the main processor. The solution was to off-load the handling of all screen activity to a more intelligent generation of graphics card . As the importance of multimedia and then 3D graphics has increased, the role of the graphics card has become ever more important and it has evolved into a highly efficient processing engine which can really be viewed as a highly special Read More Go to Site

There are two types of connector: PCI and AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port). The PC Guide makes extensive use of frames to facilitate easier navigation through the site. The PC Guide site uses a hierarchical structure of pages. You can find information on the site without using frames in three different ways: Some text browsers, like Lynx, don't support frames but allow browsing of framed sites by providing links to each frame from this page.
