These predators have destroyed the quail colony and endangered other birds. Volunteers are working for the successful return of wild raised quail by the year 2000. Recently hand raised quail were introduced back into the park and can be seen around the visitor center. However we need to introduce even more quail before this population can sustain itself. Some of these animals are small and harmless like the monarch butterfly and Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. Others are larger and noiser like the Purple Martins and the whooping cranes. Some migrants are unwelcome like the African Honey Bee. Texas ecology is important to these animals for the habitat and food sources keeping these migrants alive on their way.
