Name: Deanna Who is asking: Student Level: Elementary Question: what is the answer for 20+5+32-3+98 Hi Deanna, It might help to think of this problem as moving along the number line. Starting at zero, + means move to the right and - means move to the left. Start at 0 and move 20 units to the right. Second move 5 more units to the right (20+5=25) so you are at 25. Third move 32 more units to the right (25+32=57) so now you are at 57. Now move 3 units to the left (57-3=54) so you are at 54. Finally move 98 units to the right (54+98=152) so you are at 152. Thus 20+5+32-3+98 = 152. I hope this helps, Penny Go to Math Central Read More

Every culture on earth has developed some mathematics. In some cases, this mathematics has spread from one culture to another. Now there is one predominant international mathematics, and this mathematics has quite a history. It has roots in ancient Egypt and Babylonia, then grew rapidly in ancient Greece. PRESCHOOL LEARNING GAMES Help preschoolers learn their numbers, do simple arithmetic and begin logical reasoning by using, and then expanding on, the following activities. The activities are designed to give you an idea of the types of number games you can play with the average preschooler (ages 3 1/2 to 5). After playing these games online continue playing the games at home without the help of your computer. For example, play the "cookie game" at the kitchen table using real cookies, apples, etc. A great way to play the "wrong numbers game" is to play school with your preschooler. Use a chalkboard to write your number sequences and then call your child to the chalkboard to make corrections. And when you play school, sometimes call an imaginary student to the chalkboard. MathSteps: Grade 1: Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20: What Is It?

Votes:0
Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20 The basic addition and subtraction facts are all the combinations of 1-digit numbers (2+2, 6+9, 8+4, etc.) and the corresponding subtraction exercises (18-9, 7-4, etc.). (See the fact chart at the end of this page.) To you, these are probably automatic. You don't need to think about them because you've memorized the answers. That immediate command is what you're striving to teach your students. There are a variety of strategies that can be used to figure out or remember facts. Addition Properties: The zero property states that zero added to any number is the same as the original number. The commutative (or order) property states that the order of addends does not matter: 3 + 4 = 4 + 3. Subtraction Rules: There are two rules for using zero in subtraction Read More

Henry spends weeks picking apples, squash, pumpkins, and other delicious fruits and vegetables from his garden. Then he invites his friends to a big harvest ball to celebrate the harvest and to eat lots of good food. Henry counted the chairs in his dining room. "I count 10 chairs. That means I have enough seats for 9 of my friends. That's great!" said Henry happily. Who do you think would sit in Henry's last chair? [Henry himself would sit in the tenth chair.] back to story Picture 2 Henry wrote invitations to Joe Giraffe, Alice Anteater, Larry Lion, Elli Elephant, Charlie Chimpanzee, and Zelda Zebra.
