I am Marica Gatt, a beekeeper from the Island of Malta...the land of honey. Enjoy my site. The Maltese Islands possess a very rich wild flora with over 1000 flowering plants recorded. This is one reason why the Islands are renowned for best quality honey produced. Wild Thyme (Thymus capitatus) honey collected from the barren land in the North of Malta is the most preferred type of honey. According to Longo, Roman and Greek people, 200 years b.c, gave our Island the name of Melita, the Island of Honey. Votes:0 A LOOK AT THE U.S. BEEKEEPING INDUSTRY The beekeeping industry in the United States is so diverse that characterizations are difficult; however, some generalizations can be made. In terms of numbers of colonies* and involvement in beekeeping as a profit-making enterprise, the range of beekeepers runs from hobbyists with one or two colonies in a backyard or "out at the farm," to sideliners operating up to 500 colonies to bring in a second income, to commercial operators with thousands of colonies and several employees on their payrolls. The "typical" commercial beekeeper, for whom beekeeping is the main source of income, operates 1,500 to 2,500 colonies and has full time employees and additional harvest-time help. Depending on the area of the country and other factors, a colony of bees will Read More Go to Site

The orchard mason bee ( Osmia lignaria ) is a gentle beneficial insect that has potential as a pollinator of apples, cherries, and other tree fruits. It is found throughout most of North America, particularly in wooded areas but often around homes in towns and cities. Homeowners sometimes become concerned when they see the bee entering cavities under shake siding or investigating nail holes or other cavities in wood during March through early June. These are not destructive insects, since they do not excavate holes in the wood, though they will clean out loose debris. No controls are recommended, since no damage Read More Go to Site

Votes:0 Solar Wax Melter Plans by Ron Bennett A solar wax melter is a glass-covered box that uses the heat of the sun to melt beeswax and separate it from honey and other materials with which it is found in honey-bee colonies. The melter can be used to render old combs, cappings, burr comb, and other hive scrapings containing wax. It is also handy for removing beeswax from excluders. The melter produces wax of high quality and eliminates the need for the sometimes hazardous job of rendering wax in the house. The sloping top surface of the solar wax melter provides maximum exposure to the sun and allows honey and melted wax to drain quickly into the storage pan. Before use, the entire unit, including the sheet-metal pan, should be painted black for maximum heat absorption. The glass cover with two Read More Go to Site
