Seahorses
A piece of everything
Seahorses are real creatures. Although they combine the anatomy of many other creatures like a character from a child's book, seahorses are not legends or myths like mermaids.
Seahorses are vertebrate fish. Technically, their taxanomic classification is the Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Sub-phylum Vertebrata, Class Osteichthyes and Order Perciformes. They belong to the family Syngnathidae (syn - together or with [Greek] and gnathos - jaw [Greek]) ...

Of all the mysterious, secretive creatures in the ocean, the seahorse is probably the most legendary. It looks like a creature that could only exist in someone's imagination, and in fact there are few ocean creatures that can claim to influence cultures as much as the seahorse in areas such as writing, art and poetry.
Seahorses are such masters of camouflage divers rarely see them, yet they are distributed worldwide in all but the coldest seas. Their instruments of deception include se ...

Sea Dragons are arguably the most spectacular and mysterious of all ocean fish. Though close relatives of sea horses, sea dragons have larger bodies and leaf-like appendages which enable them to hide among floating seaweed or kelp beds. Sea dragons feed on larval fishes and amphipods, such as and small shrimp-like crustaceans called mysids ("sea lice"), sucking up their prey in their small mouths. Many of these amphipods feed on the red algae that thrives in the shade of the kelp forests w ...

26-27 MAY 1999
by CHADWIN THOMAS
HANDUMON, BOHOL
REY ABANO plies the dark, warm waters off Jandayan Island searching for seahorses, his way lit by a kerosene lantern tied to the front of his small fishing boat, and a half-moon sky deep with stars. The 24-year-old's head disappears under the water, pops up for air and disappears again.
But more often than not, Abano resurfaces empty-handed. Indeed, he counts himself already lucky if he manages to haul in 10 seahorses in a sin ...

Sea horses have heads that resemble that of a horse's head. That's how they got their name-sea horse. Sea horses have long, flexible tails that are capable of grasping a hold of objects such as sea weed, plants, and coral. Their bodies are either fully are partly covered with bony plates, that act as body armor. The body armor is arranged in rings throughout the body and tail. The body has exactly 11 rings and the ta ...

It gives me a buzz that I have been able to find something so magnificen ...

Seahorses
With their unusual shape, peculiar feeding behavior, and downright bizarre breeding habits (the males give birth to live young), seahorses have long been an object of fascination and desire for aquarists. Unfortunately, many hobbyists are unaware of their requirements, and many seahorses fail to thrive.
Picky eaters - Seahorses do not often eat flake, pellet or even most frozen foods. They prefer small live crustaceans like brine shrimp or Gammarus, but ...

Sea Horses
Seahorses have fascinated humans for centuries. They were captured and kept in aquariums where they were studied. But, it is only recently that they have been studied in their natural habitat by Dr. Amanda Vincent. She has written many articles about her observations of seahorses. She believes that the populations of seahorses around the world are declining quickly and that we must take measure ...

Seahorses
by Sally
.....A Seahorse is an interesting animal. A Seahorse has bony plates and a dorsal fin. The fin looks like an ear. They have a long thin snout and a prehensile tail. A Seahorse is less than six inches long. There are dragon Seahorses and others with different colors and shapes.
.....Their prey are plankton and tiny shrimp. Their predators are fish, eels, people and sharks. Baby Seahorses are born in their father's pouch and their parents don't take care of them. When a boy Seahorse has only air in his pouch, he will die on the surface.
