Oesophageal Scleroderma
Scleroderma, or Systemic Sclerosis, is aa disease, where the patient has an increase in connective tissue of the skin and many other organs, e.g. the oesophagus. As a result of the fibrosis in the oesophagus there is marked oesophageal hypomobility, and this causes delayed emtying of the oesophagus and reflux of acid stomach juice, and the end result can be a refluxoesophagitis superimposed on the scleroderma.
