Giraffe
Giraffa camelopardalis
The world’s tallest animal, a giraffe can easily look into a second-storey window. Its height, which can be up to 4 m, allows it to browse on high foliage, as well as to employ its highly developed sense of sight to see farther than any terrestrial creature. This “bird’s-eye view” is also the animal’s principal defence against predators, allowing it to spot danger. Their buff-coloured hide, with spots of darker brown, provides excellent cam ...

Giraffe (Neil Shedden took these photos at Heia, nr Johannesburg RSA)
Giraffa camelopardalis. Males are around 5m tall. Both sexes have "horns" - short projections of skin-covered bone. Despite its long neck, the giraffe has only 7 cervical vertabrae - the same as humans, and all mammals. Giraffe browse on trees, especially acacia. They are nervous and vulnerable whilst drinking - unlike humans?!
Is there just one giraffe, two, or many? It depends on what you mean by ?giraffe.?

GIRAFFES
Lions are giraffes chief predators.
A giraffe has only 7 vertebrae (bony segments of the spine) in its neck - each one is 0.3m (1 ft) long.
Giraffes usually sleep in a standing position, and protect themselves by kicking.
Herds of two to ten members, led by an adult bull, contain cows, calves, and immature males.
A giraffe has a strange way of fighting other giraffes - they push each other neck, to neck.
Giraffes inhabit dry, tree-scattered land south of the Afric ...

Giraffes; The tallest of all land mammals, giraffes tower up to 18 feet above the grasslands of sub-Sahara Africa. Giraffes are herbivores, and their long necks allow them to reach the tasty leaves and shoots of thorny acacia trees.
