This page is in no way comprehensive and is only intended to give a brief overview into the keeping of venomous animals. It is also here to show you that snakes are only animals. Some pretty, some not, they are just animals.
Although these types of animals are dangerous, they are also very interesting. They are often a challenge to maintain and/or breed. It makes keeping them that much more satisfying. If you are thinking ab ...

Anaconda. The largest snakes are found in the boa family, and the largest of these is the anaconda or water boa.
Anaikolra, the Tamil word for anaconda, means "elephant killer".
The anaconda lives throughout tropical South America, east of the Andes, mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco basins, and in the Guianas. It extends to Trinidad. The species is variable in color and size giving rise to sub-specific names. Black patches on the anaconda's back combine with dull background color to blend ...

Brown Watersnake
The harmless brown watersnake is a common resident of the southeastern U.S. Many people are absolutely convinced that this species is dangerous to people. It’s large size and superficial resemblance to the venomous cottonmouth (see previous animal of the week) often lead to it’s untimely death. Brown watersnakes can be found in rivers, streams and even lakes and ponds. They feed almost exclusively on catfish sometimes diving deep to the river bottom to secure their prey. The ...

Flying snakes are a small group of species of tree snakes that live in South and Southeast Asia. At rest they appear unremarkable, but on the move they're able to take to the air by jumping from the tree, flattening the entire body, and gliding or parachuting to the ground or another tree. This site is dedicated to documenting the science of these unique animals. Click here for a list of people and funding agencies that have contributed to flying snake research. Some NE Florida’s Non-venomous Snakes
WHAT IS A SNAKE? A snake is a reptile without legs. A reptile usually has scales, lays eggs, breathes air, and doesn’t spend much time taking care of its babies. It is also cold-blooded, which means that its body doesn’t stay the same temperature all the time. (Our bodies stay at 98.6 degrees F all day.) Snakes get very cold on winter days and very hot in the summer. Because of this, snakes usually stay in burrows during very hot and cold weather. A ...

These slender emerald snakes are common residents of the southeast. Because they are so well camouflaged they are rarely seen. Look for them in vine thickets on warm days in the early spring. Green Snakes are excellent climbers and spend most of their lives in trees or bushes. They eat a variety of pesty insects and spiders which they capture and swallow alive.

Because of this, snakes usually stay in burrows during very hot and cold weather. A burrow is a hole ...
