For TWELVE consecutive years, a Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae) had nested in the bottom of a lamp in my patio. However, in 2005 I moved to a new residence but I did take the lamps with me. I hope to start a new nest streak once I get settled.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Archilochus colubris
Scientific Name: The genus name combines two Greek words, arch (chief) and lochos (a body of people). The species name is Latin meaning "serpent," but was probably a spelling mistake, with the author meaning colibre (hummingbird).
