The LXVR was incorporated in February 1996 to acquire the rail line owned by the C&G from Columbus, Ms., to the Mississippi/Alabama state line and the continuance of that rail line to Belk, AL, owned by the NS.
The LXVR commenced operation of this thirty-four (34) mile long freight railroad between Columbus, MS, and Belk, AL, June 1, 1996.

The Gainesville Midland Railroad
A Northeast Georgia short line
The Gainesville Midland Railroad was a short line from Gainesville to Athens in Northeast Georgia, with a branch to Winder. Connections were with Southern at Gainesville, and Seaboard Air Line at Athens and Winder. The Winder branch
(junction at Belmont, Georgia) is gone, and the main line is now the Gainesville
Midland subdivision, Atlanta division of CSX.

"The time will come when people will travel in stages moved by steam engines from one city to another, almost as fast as birds can fly, 15 or 20 miles an hour....
