Description
Rhododendron is a genus of a shrub with about 800 species worldwide. Its ovate evergreen or deciduous leaves are alternate, 1/2 - 8 inches in length depending on variety, with smooth untoothed margins. Summary:
Foliage: Evergreen or semi-evergreen broadleaf
Height: 6 to 10 feet
Spread: 5 to 8 feet or more
Shape: Bushy
Large, evergreen leaves are dark green. Large round flower clusters are white, pink, purple or red and occur at tips of branches.
Plant Needs:
Zone: 4 to 7
Light: Partial shade
Moisture: Wet or moist
Soil Type: Sandy or loam

Six Steps to Success with Rhododendrons
1. PLANTING: Amend soil with compost, redwood soil conditioner or peatmoss to make a rich, fluffy soil, with a Ph between 5.0-6.0. Beware planting close to concrete foundations or other areas near concrete, as these sites tend to have higher Ph soils that are toxic to rhododendrons.
