FRIENDS OF THE DOUBLING POINT LIGHT
Doubling Point Light was built in 1898 on Arrowsic Island on the Kennebec River in Maine. It was one of four lighthouses built that year to provide navigational aid for ships on their way to Bath, "the City of Ships." Friends of the Doubling Point Light was established in 1997 in an effort to secure the future of the lighthouse.

I have always enjoyed the sight of a lighthouse. It must have had something to do with growing up in the Boston area, whos harbor has abundance of lighthouses. I remember taking the Boston Harbor cruises with the late Edward Rowe Snow, author of over 100 books on New England and the sea. On Saturdays and Sundays he ...

These beacons have lighted the way for sailors since the birth of our country. For others, since lighthouses come in a variety of shapes and sizes, it is the many different architectural styles and engineering ingenuity utilized in building these magnificent structures. Yet for me, lighthouses are much more. They are symbols of strength and ho ...

It is said that in 1513 (almost 100 years prior to the failed Jamestown experiment), Juan Ponce DeLeon was exploring the land and waters around the inlet that today bears his name. Replacing a lighthouse on the New Smyrna side of the inlet, the present landmark went into service in 1887 and was the only navigational a ...
