CCI's Writing Process for Reports
Prewriting for Short Stories
Brainstorming can take any number of forms. The most important point to remember that you need to find a form that "works for you". Working for you means a format that allows you to generate quality ideas and keep them organized.
The first step in report writing is to define your topic and be sure that you have an appropriate focus for the report. A common mistake is taking on a topic that is too broad or is something othe ...

FAQ--Frequently Asked Questions About Writing Researched Papers
How do I begin writing/ what can I include in my introduction?
You can begin writing any way you'd like (some writers don't write their introductions until last)--but drafting an introduction sometime before you complete your first draft will give your reader (and maybe you) a sense of where your paper is going and why your topic is important. Consider beginning with a "hook" to get your readers interested, such as the foll ...

GENERAL TERM PAPER GUIDELINES
A good paper contains many interesting ideas backed up with an adequate number of pertinent examples. Successful writing depends on invention, the generation of relevant ideas. Many people have trouble getting started, so begin the process of brainstorming early. Just write, no matter how nonsensical. Be prepared to throw away a lot of useless words. You will be surprised at how many really good ideas will remain. Very shortly into the writing experience identify ...

HOW NOT TO WRITE AN ESSAY
Although good grammar, a wide range of vocabulary and attention to mechanical details like spelling and punctuation are important, most marks do not come from these. Obviously knowledge of your subject is vital, but it is not enough in itself; students may have all the knowledge in their heads, but still lose marks through bad writing. Some of the most common reasons for losing marks are empty writing, clichés, over-generalisation and subjectivity.

HOW TO WRITE
ANTHROPOLOGY PAPERS
ABSTRACT
Begin your paper with a one paragraph abstract of around one hundred words. In your abstract you define your topic and summarize your conclusions. An abstract gives the reader a good idea of what points the paper will argue. If you begin by writing your abstract first you will often find your paper's organization is improved. Indent and single space your abstract. Double space the rest of the paper except for long quotes.

ON WRITING LAB REPORTS (F96 5LC)
Here are some general guidelines on writing lab reports. These are nothing more than tips and do not suggest a specific format. However, these items are a compendium of ideas that have been compiled by TAs who have previously taught this course.
General Comments:
1. Neatness - an obvious necessity. TAs are only allocated 10-15 minutes to grade each lab writeup. It is very frustrating to try to grade a report that is poorly organized and/or illegibly writt ...
