Description: A short-tailed, reddish brown or grayish, medium-sized cat. Colors may vary, but most have reddish-brown upper parts streaked with black. Back of ears is usually rimmed with black, white in the center and slightly tufted. Hair on sides of face is long while rest of pelt is quite short. These North American cats are found in a wide variety of habitats. At dusk and dawn they hunt for birds, rodents and rabbits which they stalk on the ground. They are also good climbers. Each cat has its own territory and they are solitary except during the breeding season. The female raises up to 6 kittens in a rocky den or hollow log.
