PAGAN Pagan was the capital of Burma between 1044 and 1287. More than 2000 Buddhist monuments have been recorded at the present-day site which measures 13 by 6 km and includes the villages Nyaung-U, Wetkyi-in, Old Pagan, New Pagan, and Minnanthu (see map).
