Millard Fillmore Millard Fillmore was one of two presidents to have double letters in his first and last names. Fillmore established the first permanent library in the White House. Fillmore didn't make an Inaugural Address. Fillmore refused an honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law from Oxford. He said, "No man should accept a degree that he cannot read." Fillmore was the first president to have a stepmother. After his term, he became the chancellor of the University of Buffalo. Fillmore's wife had the first "running-water bathtub" installed in the White House. He was named after his mother, Phoebe Millard Fillmore. Fillmore was the last president born in the 18th century.
